The most apt comparison to LLMs in No Silver Bullet is actually not the discussion of “AI”, it’s the discussion of automatic programming, which has meant a lot of different things over the years, but was defined by Brooks at the time as “the generation of a program for solving a problem from a statement of the problem specifications”.
